Originally from Sydney and currently based in San Francisco, Goodyear has been headlining the world’s highest-profile clubs and parties for over 25 years. His style encapsulates an incredible range. During his sets he combines tech house, latin beats, dynamic disco and soulful house to create a signature style all his own. With many artists struggling to stay relevant as musical trends come and go and technology changes the playing field, Paul has shown a remarkable gift for not just staying abreast of these trends, but for contributing to them and shaping them himself.

1) Why do you play music?
Pattie Labelle once sang “Music is my way of life” and this really says it all in my life. I first really noticed music in 1974 with ABBA’s “Waterloo” and George McRae’s “Rock your baby”. From that moment on I knew that music was to be my way of life! I play music because I love to share “the joy” of music. Cliche? Sounds like it but for without music I honestly don’t know what purpose I would have! (I love to cook and love animals so perhaps I could of been a Chef or animal carer)
2) What do you see as your role in the music world going into the future?
Fast forward into the future and I’m hoping I will still be DJ’ing, Remixing and Producing. I am so blessed that I have been able to ride “this journey”. Being in the music business for 30 years now it has been a ride of great highs and not the so great lows of the industry. There are moments when I question why I do what I do! But hearing a great song and production snaps me out of it and back to reality real quick. I am still as passionate today as I ever was. The music has become a little more disposable sure…but there is still so much great talent out there so I guess I’ll be here till I die on some dance floor! 🙂
3) Favorite label or artist from the past year?
I have always loved the defected label out of the UK. They don’t follow trends they just put out great music! Joey Negro is legendary and is one of my favorite artists and producers (and I love his Z records label)
4) What are you looking forward to most this year?
I love Pride here in the U.S and am so grateful I get to travel and spin at some Pride events. I look forward to everyday actually! I love the surprises life delivers us. Also “Where Love Lives” on July 19th at Beatbox here in San Francisco. We are bringing legendary DJ Jerry Bonham over to spin with me opening for him.
5) You’ve lived a lot of places. What makes a sense of home for you?
I would have to say the people. You can live in THE most beautiful place in the world but if you don’t connect with the people then it’s not home! San Francisco is home for now. “There’s no place like home”
