This mix has been ruling my world this weekend. It’s a 2 hour compilation of tracks by Greg Womack pulled from the newly released Motown Joints 10 volume collection of edits and mixes. The collection is compiled by Jay Negron aka J*SKI, and includes edits by Tom Moulton, John Morales, Scratchandsniff, The Apple Scruffs, Pied Piper, Whiskey Barons, U-Tern, Alkalino, Onur Engin, Drop Out Orchestra, Dimitri From Paris, Belabouche and Todd Terje. It’s epic and truly amazing.
You can download the entire 10 volume collection here.
The whole point of a remix is to extend all the best parts of a song as decided by the song remixer. Tom Moulton is a master because he retains all the original warmth and vibe of the original track, while making it usually longer and more interesting.

If you know me, you know I love me my disco. So imagine my delight when I came across this BBC-produced documentary. It’s pretty good and a well-recommended watch. Tom Moulton is especially funny reminiscing about his remix of Andrea True Connection‘s More More More. As is Moroder on the creation of the pioneering Diana Ross classic I Feel Love. Their focus on the connection between disco music and gay culture gives me warm fuzzies. My biggest gripe is that there’s nary a mention of Larry Levan, not one peep.
