Odd how we stumble over stuff sometimes. My housemate Scott Burdette randomly found this techno mix from Perm, Russia and it kind of blew both of our minds. Starts pretty good but gets really deep and dark around 20 minutes in and continues into mind-blowing psychedelia from there. Download link on the page. Cheers & enjoy (sorry–couldn’t get Mixcloud to embed for some reason).
Malmö, Sweden’s Minilogue, composed of Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson, has been at it for a minute, creating fine techno from their city just across the channel from neighboring Copenhagen, Denmark. I love their take on techno, both the minimal, the earthy, the warm, and the oceanic. Lately, I’ve been puring some of their newer works (in remix form) into my mixes, but some classics remain, of which this is but a sample of their fine catalogue.
Dr. Sleep has been DJing and making music since 2002 in San Francisco and Minneapolis. Over the years, she has been a resident at Dial Up, Hot Pants, Darling Nikki, Dirty Talk, Gaywad, She Said, and So Emotional to name too many, with guest slots at many of San Francisco’s underground party institutions. She has helped produce events such as Bring Your Own Queer (BYOQ) in Golden Gate Park, Folsom’s Official After Party – Deviants, and a new fundraising dance party for queer librarians, Que(e)ry. She produced film scores in a synth band called Paperboats with DJ Campbell, and also has a radio show with DJ Bunnystyle called Dots and Loops, which is now broadcast via Mixlr on a quite-irregular basis. She co-runs a record label called Jacktone Records with Exillon and dabecy, and, is also working on her own productions.

I always think about this little track from Paris, France’s Shonky and Jennifer Cardini (on Crosstown Rebels) after a weekend of particular indulgence: “Monday. Fuck Monday. Tuesday: Paranoia.” Most of us have been there at some time.
Both Shonky and Cardini were part of the stripped-down minimal techno & tech house sounds that rolled across Europe in the recent past, bringing a bit of spare Berlin into the studied refinement of Paris. I love the gorgeous, drifting textures that accompany the words–a spaceotter classic.
Here’s some of Shonky’s more recent work, featuring that same relaxed, mellow Parisian sophistication:

And some recent mid-tempo techno, tech-house and nu disco goodness from Jennifer Cardini:

Last, I used the “Tuesday Paranoia” track above in one of my first bedroom mixes a few years back, an experiment in various electro, progressive, and techno textures. It’s a shaker, and a favorite. Happy Tuesday Paranoia.
