We’re elated to be announcing our newest member of the Bottom Forty team. First coming onto our scope with our most well received podcast, and then bringing absolute heat to the Bottom Forty Interior Revival party, this gal has been blazing across the city leaving behind a trail of pure happiness, love and body twirling house music, and it’s that energy and joy for DJ’ing that we love so much. This gal is none other than HYASYNTH!
There’s an important statement to be made here as well. Bottom Forty is a queer collective, but there is no need to confuse the word queer with gay. Up until today we may have been all homoz, and there was a reason. We wanted to show that homo DJ’s in this city can do so much more than turn out the latest radio tunes or tribal circuit parties. We have shown that, and while queer to me really only translates to “friendly, ally, or in this together”, we welcome in our newest member lovingly, because above all, top-notch music selecting, love and inspiration and bringing our dancing community together is paramount to us.
To celebrate, we just went live with Hyasynth’s live recording from the first Bottom Forty!
Please join all of us tonight (Saturday 9.13) at Kremwerk for our second installation of Bottom Forty, featuring Vin Sol! (EVENT INFO HERE)
The news is out, after months and months of work, planning and rebranding, we are so completely thrilled to announce the revival of Bottom Forty as an event and dance experience. Please join us on the 2nd Saturdays at Kremwerk, starting on August 9th, with special guest headliner and one of our top podcasters, Hyasynth.
As always, Bottom Forty’s inspiration comes from the travel and adventures of our crew, the video above was compiled from clips from my travels over the past year.
RSVP your first and last name to BottomFortySeattle@gmail.com and we’ll give you a free Bottom Forty t-shirt upon arrival (while supplies last), if we run out, your cover charge will be halved.
Join our Facebook invite here and get ready to get lifted.
Hyasynth (aka Karen Baskett) fell in love with records at a young age, and her obsession with music has manifested itself in several forms. A professional dancer and instructor, her sense of music has been called “innate and seemingly effortless” while her mixing is always precise.
Karen began as a DJ in 2000 while living in New York City pursuing her Broadway dreams. She moved to Seattle in 2004 and started an all-female DJ weekly residency at See Sound Lounge called ‘Grace’, then gained more exposure to the local scene by booking gigs at major venues in Seattle and Portland. She joined the De La Crème crew in 2006, played the Bellingham Electronic Music Festival in 2008, and has since been a frequent headlining guest at favorite Seattle spots such as Flammable Sundays, the Train Car House Party, Electric Tea Garden, Q, and The Woods.
Hyasynth has released several mixes, opened for legends such as Doc Martin, Colette, Ben Watt, Rick Preston, and Andrew Riley, and has lost countless calories dancing her heart out behind the decks during her energetic sets.

So much underground talent in Seattle, and our local treasures are many. One of the shiniest is DJ Hyasynth, member of the De La Creme posse and frequent guest at Flammable Sundays, Q, Electric Tea Garden, and anywhere else where house music is played. A dancer and instructor, her sense of music is natural and seemingly effortless, and her mixing is always en pointe.
Hyasynth, aka Karen, is respected as headliner and style maker, bringing a unique voice to house music. Here’s a set she did for Robby Clark’s Emerald City Brunch internet radio show, which recently accompanied me on a desert journey, but is at home pretty much anywhere:
And another mix on Soundcloud (free download) from last summer, which we loved so much we played it in our Burning Man camp even in her absence. That last track, “Gain on Top” just gives me the shivers.
