Bottom Forty

Bottom Forty is a mirror ball in New York, a basement in Chicago, a cruise in L.A. and a night in the desert.

One of the best things about digging for records with friends is that sometimes they find something you might overlook. This is one of those records. After I’d already checked out, Eugene Tambourine handed me this with a glowing recommendation.

From what I can tell, Destination was a one off vocal disco project by Iranian producer Elton Farokh Ahi. Move On Up was definitely the biggest hit from their only release from 1979.

This is certainly one of the best discofied cover songs ever, on par with Rosebud’s Have a Cigar.

This record was one of those “oh my gawd, I can’t believe I found this” dollar bin finds. I’ve loved Linda Clifford ever since hearing “Gypsy Lady” and just can’t get enough of her. “Gypsy Lady” was co-written by the one and only Curtis Mayfield.

Here’s a rip of the first track from her 1979 record “Let Me Be Your Woman” – mixed by Jim Burgess. The bass is deep and the strings are soaring. Strongly recommend good headphones for this listen..
