Bio:

Hi, my name is Bob Hansen and I am a Northwest native and I met Dave Pezzner in Junior High and we started making music and eventually we became Jacob London and we did a bunch of stuff but after a while we stopped doing stuff and I started doing my own thing which has been going pretty well with a handful of EPs and remixes on lots of labels and also my first full length on Hush Hush which is a rad local label run by Alex Ruder and they are also putting out a compilation of remixes from that album which all sound pretty dope and it’s setting the stage for me doing a lot more dance music again and this mix is pretty representative of what I’ve been into and where my Hanssen sound might be going but also I could be totally wrong and I’ll end up making polka or some shit because I am just like that.

Where are you based?:

A quaint little not-quite-suburb of Seattle, WA called “Ballard”.

Questions:

1) Why do you play music?

I’ve been wondering this a lot myself actually. I think I just have to. Not like in some noble it’s-in-my-heart-and-i-must-share-it-with-the-world kind of way, though. I have a lot of creative pursuits, but this is the one that is always present in my life. I love it, and I love that I’m figuring out how to do it solely for me more and more as time goes on. I am a massive music fan, and I’m always obsessively consuming new music. A big part of my creative process is trying to pick apart stuff that I appreciate, and try to figure out how to distill what it is I love about it, and put my own spin on it and work it into my stuff. Short answer: it’s just goddamn fun.

2) What do you see as your role in the music world going into the future?

I’m certainly not attempting any kind of “career”. I just want to keep on making the music I wanna make, and if people want to release it and then other people enjoy listening to it – that’s awesome! Of course, success feeds the ego and that’s always nice but I’m trying to get away from that as a motivating factor as much as possible. I still have a day job, and I don’t see that changing.

3) Favorite label or artist from the past year?

Dorian Concept, hands down. His production and musicality are just amazing.

4) What are you looking forward to most this year?

Finally finishing a new Jacob London EP with Pezzner!

5) Why are you so stuck on pepperoni as a pizza topping?

Oh man, that’s a great question. There’s just something about it that is perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I like other toppings too. But I feel like once you’ve got the pepperoni on there, everything you add after that is just taking flavor points away one at a time. There may be a lot of flavor points left, but it’s still not as many as just pepperoni by itself.
