Bottom Forty

Bottom Forty is a mirror ball in New York, a basement in Chicago, a cruise in L.A. and a night in the desert.

Bulgarian producer, remixer, and DJ KiNK (aka Strahil Velchev)┬áhas been on the radar for a while to many of us in the know. After recent performances at Decibel 2013, VIA 2013, Honey Soundsystem’s NYE party in 2012, it’s been great to have more United States audiences in the fold to his fantastic productions. His music features odd, trippy experimental textures and lo-fi percussion with house, techno and psychedelic edges.

I featured his remix of Jimpster’s “Porchlight and Chairs” in the B40 Facebook group recently, and even since then the track has grown on me and may become one of my top 10 tracks of all time. The psychedelic, rising-chakra layers of building strings near the end are utterly inspiring and transcendent to my ear. Transformative, in fact. DJ Jens Irish and I were both gushing like schoolgirls last Saturday at Nark’s Jack event at the Seattle Eagle that this track is “Everything.” OMG gurl…

People have been raving (literally) about his recent Beats in Space live mix as well. Downtempo and lovely. Grab it and be informed and luscious.
