Xan Lucero (Flammable, De La Creme, Proper, U:Move, Control Freeks)

BIO: Almost 20 years in the DJ booth doesn’t lie, and neither does the dance floor…which is where Xan Lucero has spent the last two decades playing house and techno music. He has spent the better part of the last 15 years traveling America exploring its DJ booths and dance floors playing a global brand of underground dance music, both on solo adventures as well as with his partner Atom Bryce as The Control Freeks. Together with Atom and on his own, Xan has held residencies all around America, made parties, thrown raves, run record stores, started discos, helped with various record labels and has generally lived his life playing music for people that want to hear it.

Xan has recently relocated back to Seattle and is enjoying a packed schedule of holding down resident duties for legendary west coast house music institution, Flammable, and has been picked up by the northwest staple brand, De La Creme, as well as hosting his own monthly and weekly parties. He continues to guest and tour around America.

Where are you based? Seattle

Why do you play music?

I think I play music because I have to. I love the night. And I love to be a part of it. I think that I might be chasing that one pure moment again as well, that first feeling of figuring it all out. It’s like crack to me. Wait, what is crack? Also the aliens…I think they might make me play their music for people as well. I can’t tell anymore.

What do you see as your role in the music world going into the future?

Hmmmm, good question. God, I hope I can just remain a relevant conduit for presenting music to people that want to hear it. Step up production. But mostly just serve my city. Continue to obey the dance floor.

Favorite label or artist from the last year?

There is no way I can answer this LOL. My fave character in dance music is without a doubt Seth Troxler. My fave current tool is “Closer” by Gunnar Stiller. People go mad on it, myself included. Fave local label, VIVA! Fave color, the stars at night. Also I’m a Libra.

What are you looking forward to most this year?

Man, I think the things that I am most jazzed on in the future music-wise is just that: the music. It’s like a flood right now, a wonderful, magical flood. I mean, as a disciple of the underground dance movement, I have never had it so good, DJ and music-wise. There are SO many fantastic, and I think, brilliant things that are happening with dance music right now. It’s a great time to be on a dance floor.

Everything else-wise, finding way more time to hang with my girl and my dog. Its really all I ever want to do.  And getting back to the culinary world too–I miss the kitchen horribly.  And tacos. More tacos please.
